Artist Statement: Carina Claassens Ceramics
In my ceramic practice, I strive to explore the dynamic intersection between form, texture, and nature. Inspired by the organic beauty found in the world around me, I create ceramic pieces that capture the essence of both simplicity and complexity. My work invites viewers to pause, appreciate, and engage with the delicate interplay of shape, surface, and material.
Drawing upon my background in design and my deep connection to the natural world, I find inspiration in the subtle details and patterns found in plants, landscapes, and geological formations. These influences are translated into my ceramic creations, where I aim to evoke a sense of harmony and balance.
Each piece I create is a unique expression of my artistic vision. Through a meticulous process of hand-building and wheel-throwing, I mold and shape clay to bring my ideas to life. I am fascinated by the transformative power of fire and glaze, and I carefully consider the relationship between form and surface treatment. This interplay allows me to create intricate textures and subtle variations in color, resulting in pieces that possess a tactile and visual depth.
My ceramics often take the form of vessels, exploring the idea of containment and the potential for transformation. By combining functionality with aesthetics, I aim to create objects that can be appreciated both as art and as tools for daily living. I believe that the objects we interact with in our everyday lives have the power to enhance our experiences and connect us to our environment on a deeper level.
Through my work, I hope to evoke a sense of wonder and contemplation in the viewer. I invite you to explore the intricate details of my ceramics, to run your fingers over the textured surfaces, and to appreciate the subtle beauty that lies within. By embracing the inherent imperfections and uniqueness of each piece, I strive to create objects that inspire a sense of connection, grounding, and tranquility.
Thank you for joining me on this artistic journey. I hope that my ceramics bring joy and a renewed appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us all.
